For the Good of People and Planet: OmniActive’s Social and Environmental Impact

Sustainability

In today’s rapidly changing world, authentic leadership is measured by what a company creates and its positive impact on people and the planet.

At OmniActive, we are deeply committed to the well-being of the communities and individuals that play a vital role in our mission of creating better health through high-quality and natural ingredients. We are dedicated to fostering positive change globally through our environmental sustainability initiatives as well as our social sustainability efforts that fall under OmniActive’s Improving Lives Foundation (ILF).

Through ILF, we actively create a positive and lasting impact on the health, education, and environment of the communities we serve. We aim to empower and uplift communities through strategic partnerships and targeted initiatives, particularly those in vulnerable and underserved populations.

This article highlights how OmniActive is active in its communities and how we are taking steps to protect the environment today and in the future. Let’s look at some impactful programs and practices we have implemented and nonprofits we’ve partnered with.

Empowering Health and Education for Underprivileged Communities in India

The health and wellness of individuals and communities are paramount to social sustainability. At OmniActive, we recognize the importance and power of education and access to health care in transforming lives, especially for underserved communities. We’ve seen how OmniActive’s commitment has made an impact by providing over 6,300 eye exams, creating over 20 digitized schools, and  125,000 malnourished children.

We are proud to partner with nonprofit organizations like the Navneet Foundation, Sankara Eye Foundation, and Vitamin Angels, all of which empower individuals and uplift communities. Here’s a snapshot of what we’re doing:

  • The Navneet Foundation: employs digital technologies to enhance the quality of education in underprivileged schools. By bringing digital technologies to these areas, children are given the opportunity to expand their education and thinking.
  • The Sankara Eye Foundation: provides free eye screenings, exams, and surgeries for rural communities to improve their eye health. By addressing the critical need for good eyesight, we help prevent the progression of vision loss and restore hope to those who would otherwise face irreversible blindness.
  • Vitamin Angels: addresses children’s eye health challenges globally in hard-to-reach areas by providing essential vitamins and nutrients like vitamin A. By addressing vitamin A deficiency, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of these children while simultaneously promoting a healthier future for our world

Supporting Rural Communities through Agricultural Education

Aside from the great work with do with our health and education programs, we also take pride in helping our farmer partners with technologies and know-how to improve their lives while protecting the planet. As part of OmniActive’s ILF environment program, we continuously educate them on  renewable energy alternatives  And, because water scarcity is a significant challenge faced by rural farming communities, we educate farmers on water-saving techniques such as drip irrigation and rainwater harvesting. By utilizing these methods, farmers can optimize water usage, reduce water waste, and ensure there is availability for their crops.

Additionally, our agricultural teams organize training programs and workshops, to provide farmers with the latest insights and techniques to enhance their agricultural productivity and sustainability. They educate them on best farming methods, efficient use of fertilizers and pesticides, and crop rotation practices that promote soil health. By adopting these strategies, farmers can achieve higher yields, minimize environmental impact, and improve the quality of their produce.

Harvesting Hope: Environmental Strategies for a Brighter Future

As noted earlier, water scarcity is a pressing issue in India, with the demand projected to be twice the available supply by 2030. And, water conservation is also a top priority for OmniActive.

OmniActive is working on how its facilities can do better with water management and recharge systems across rural India to combat this challenge. We aim to install rainwater harvesting systems, revitalize groundwater, rejuvenate, and create new water bodies. By conserving water resources and maintaining the hydrological cycle, we preserve the environment and support a sustainable future.

Additionally, we are actively reducing freshwater usage and increasing water efficiency across all locations. To do so, we have implemented a zero-water discharge policy in all our facilities to minimize water waste and protect this precious resource. Furthermore, we embrace the principles of the circular economy by reusing byproducts and finding sustainable alternatives to sending waste to landfills. For example, marigold flower spent is sold to the chicken feed industry, reducing waste and promoting a circular and sustainable economy.

We recognize the importance of environmental sustainability in creating a better future for people and the planet. As part of our commitment, we are actively reducing our use of fossil fuels and increasing the integration of renewable energy sources into our energy mix. Currently, 20% of the energy used in our Hosur facility is derived from solar power. We also continuously improve energy efficiency across all locations with the ambition to achieve Net Zero emissions.

OmniActive’s commitment to social and environmental sustainability is ingrained in everything.  Through OmniActive’s Improving Lives Foundation and by addressing pressing challenges and promoting renewable energy, water conservation, and the circular economy, we strive to build a brighter future for people and the planet. Together, let’s create a world where social and environmental sustainability go hand in hand for the betterment of all.
