More on our areas of focus
Resource conservation
Resource conservation is a top priority for OmniActive being dependent both on the manufacturing and agricultural side. We have implemented a zero-water discharge policy in all our plants to minimize water waste. We are actively reducing freshwater usage and increasing water efficiency across all manufacturing sites.
Transition to renewable energy
As the renewable energy sector continues to grow and evolve, OmniActive will continue to adopt renewable energy alternatives to improve energy efficiency across all locations. As a start, we have converted to energy-efficient bulbs to minimize electric consumption for lighting up to 90% in all of our facilities. In our Hosur plant, 20 percent of the energy used is solar energy.
Emissions
We have taken several steps to reduce emissions and address the environmental impact with the ambition to achieve Net Zero emissions.
Waste management
We employ strategies for waste management by incorporating, reusing, recycling, and upcycling practices. For example, our marigold spent is upcycled to the chicken feed industry and our drums in the production cycle are reused instead of being thrown out.
Our sustainability efforts at the farm level
Our Lutemax range of premium lutein ingredients is produced through a fully vertically integrated supply chain for sustainability, transparency, and greater assurance of supply continuity. Through our dedicated network of more than 10,000 farmer partners, we conduct extensive training both on and off the field, including sustainable practices and Good Agriculture Practices to improve productivity, yield, and plant protection.
Educating farmers on water-saving techniques is crucial for promoting responsible water usage. Drip irrigation, for example, is a precise and efficient method of watering crops, delivering water directly to the roots where it is needed most. This can result in significant water savings compared to traditional irrigation methods. Rainwater harvesting is another valuable approach that allows farmers to collect and store rainwater for later use, especially during periods of drought. By capturing and utilizing rainwater, farmers can reduce their dependence on freshwater sources and ensure a more reliable water supply for their crops.
OmniActive’s Improving Lives Foundation environmental program also helps to empower farmers to adopt more sustainable agricultural practices such as planting trees to additionally help sequential carbon get back into the ground.
